Gingerbread Houses

In 1996 my Mom bought a magazine with a gingerbread village made out of graham crackers. That year on Christmas Eve my Dad, Mom, Brian and I made the village. Since then making gingerbread houses has become a tradition. At times, in years past, this has been a very frustrating tradition! Our gingerbread wouldn't turn out, or the walls would crash in once we started adding candy, etc., etc. Brian has given up on gingerbread houses but my kids love it so it's something we do each year. This year I got smart and bought a pre-made house at Costco. All we had to do was add the icing and the candy - hooray!

Lexie loved the gingerbread making process - especially licking the icing off her knife!
She had fun icing the house and adding candy to it.

Aunt Diana helped too (Uncle Brian wasn't even there this year!).

I helped a little but mostly left the decorating to Lexie.

She spent quite a bit of time getting her house just right.

Lucas had already done a gingerbread house at school so he didn't want to do another one but he did decorate the gingerbread men.

Adding icing and candy decorations.

All done!

As soon as he finished decorating them, he ate them!

Our finished houses. As always, it was a fun and messy process!
