Easter Eggs

Today we started getting ready for Easter.
We are having a neighborhood Easter egg hunt this weekend so Lucas helped me fill the eggs. He was a great helper and didn't even eat too much candy!
Then we started our tie-dying experiment. I read about dying Easter eggs using silk ties on a blog and I couldn't wait to try it. My dad graciously donated some of his old ties and Lucas and I set out this afternoon to see if it would work.
First, I cut up the ties. Lucas patiently waited and snapped some pictures of me.
Next, we wrapped the eggs in the ties.
After wrapping the eggs in ties we wrapped them in an old pillowcase I cut up.
We then loaded them into a pot, filled it with water, poured in some vinegar and brought it up to a boil. After it began to boil, we turned down the heat and let them simmer for 25 minutes.
Once they were done we set them out to cool and then it was time for the unveiling. Lucas helped me unwrap them and we couldn't wait to see what they looked like.
Ta Da! Well as you can see they didn't turn out as great as I hoped they would. But, some of them were pretty cool (it turned out that one of the ties we used wasn't silk and those eggs didn't turn out at all).
This is a close up of the one that turned out the best. Funnily enough it is also the one that Lucas dropped while he was unwrapping it and it cracked. Oh, well. It was a fun experiment. I think tomorrow we might try the old fashioned route and let Lexie join in on the fun.
